Smith, who grew up in Houston, is one of the city’s top up-and-coming chefs. Just 31 years old, she already has established a name for herself in Houston culinary circles and has earned a following among local foodies. She served most recently as the culinary director for the renowned Clumsy Butcher Group, where she developed menus and signature items at Blacksmith coffee shop, Hay Merchant, Anvil Bar & Refuge and The Pastry War. Prior to that, Smith was the executive chef at Plonk! Beer & Wine Bistro. Smith’s creations have earned her a spot on several “best” lists, including “Best Burger in Houston,” “The Best Breakfast Dishes of the Moment,” and nominations for the 2011 Eater Houston : “Chef of the Year Awards” and Houston Culinary Awards “Up-and-Coming Chef of the Year” in 2012 and 2013. Smith began her career at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, where she graduated top of her class. She moved to New York City to work with prominent chefs and restaurateurs, including Thomas Keller, Jonathan Benno, Mario Batalli and Joe Bastianich. A desire to be a part of Houston’s bustling restaurant scene brought Smith back home, where she instantly developed a name for her culinary creations.
